Safer Gambling

Winora wants gambling to stay what it should be: entertainment with a budget, like a night out or a football ticket. Every casino we list is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and must offer the tools below. This page explains what they do, where to get free help, and how to take a complete break if you need one. None of it is a judgement — these tools are built for everyone who plays, not only for people in difficulty.

Free help, right now

The National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day, every day of the year:

If you would rather talk to people who have been through it, Gamblers Anonymous UK runs meetings across the country, and Gordon Moody offers residential and online treatment programmes for people whose gambling has become severe.

Practical tools every licensed casino offers

Deposit limits

A cap on how much you can deposit per day, week or month. Since October 2025, UK players must set a deposit limit before their first deposit at any new casino account — treat it as a budget decision made while you are calm, not a hurdle. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one comes with a cooling-off delay.

Session limits and reality checks

You can set a maximum session length and receive on-screen reminders at intervals you choose. They show how long you have played and your net position, which is easy to lose track of in the middle of a game.

Time-outs and cool-off periods

A time-out locks your account for a short period — 24 hours up to six weeks — without closing it. It is useful after a bad session, or simply when you notice gambling creeping into time you meant to spend elsewhere.

Loss and activity statements

Every licensed operator lets you view deposits, withdrawals, stakes and net results over any period. Checking it monthly is the quickest honest answer to “how much am I really spending?”.

Self-exclusion

Self-exclusion closes your account for a minimum of six months and stops the operator contacting you with marketing. It can be done per casino, or nationally through GAMSTOP.

GAMSTOP — national self-exclusion

GAMSTOP is the free scheme that blocks you from every online gambling site and app licensed in Great Britain — including every casino on this site — for six months, one year or five years. Registration takes a few minutes and cannot be reversed early. It is the single most effective step if you want to stop completely.

Blocking software and bank blocks

Gamban blocks gambling sites and apps on all your devices, including sites GAMSTOP does not cover, and is available free to UK residents through GamCare’s TalkBanStop partnership (gamcare.org.uk/talk). Most UK banks — including Monzo, Starling, Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest and Santander — offer a gambling block on debit cards from within their app, usually with a 48-hour delay before it can be switched off.

Ask yourself

One “yes” is worth a pause and a deposit limit. Two or more is a good reason to call the helpline — a ten-minute conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Under 18s

Gambling is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. Licensed casinos verify age before allowing play, and Winora is intended for adults only. If you are worried about a young person’s gambling, GamCare’s helpline and YGAM both offer support for parents and carers.

A note from us

We make money when people sign up to casinos through this site. That is exactly why we put this page a click away from every ranking: a guide that only ever says “play more” is not worth trusting. Set a limit, keep it, and stop when it stops being fun.
